KotoKuru
Brand strategy, model shoots, content production, and full launch execution for an anime-inspired athleisure brand making its market debut.
OVERVIEW
KotoKuru is an anime-inspired athleisure and streetwear brand founded by Cameron Anderson, built around three distinct collections: Kings (men's sporty athleisure), Queens (women's body-positive comfort), and Jokers (unisex creative designs). SA Media built the brand from the ground up: brand narrative and strategy, full social media content system, a professional model shoot day with sourced talent, Shopify website development, and a coordinated launch campaign that brought KotoKuru to market for its first drop.
THE BRIEF
Cameron had a strong creative vision anchored in anime aesthetics, radical inclusivity, and self-expression. The challenge was turning that vision into a brand that could enter the market with authority. There was no website, no social media presence, no content, and no launch infrastructure. SA Media was brought in to build everything from the brand narrative through to physical production and launch execution, all anchored by the brand's slogan: "Always be Stylin'."
OUR APPROACH
- 01
Brand narrative, strategy, and collection identity. We developed the full brand narrative for KotoKuru and gave each collection a distinct identity: Kings for men's anime-influenced athleisure, Queens for women's body-positive and supportive designs using moisture-wicking and non-see-through materials, and Jokers for unisex creative graphic pieces. The brand was positioned against competitors including Lululemon, Aritzia, and ALO with a clear differentiator: inclusive sizing, premium materials (Pima Cotton and Recycled Polyester), and a design language no other brand in the space was using.
- 02
Model sourcing, casting call, and content shoot. SA Media organised and ran a full BTS content shoot day on September 22, 2024, at Don Don Izakaya in Toronto. We handled the casting call end-to-end, sourcing three diverse models representing different ethnicities, skin tones, and aesthetics to align with KotoKuru's inclusive brand values. Each model was styled across two outfits per set location. The shoot produced the visual library used for the brand's entire launch across social media and the website.
- 03
Social media content strategy and management. We built and managed KotoKuru's presence across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The content strategy was structured around brand storytelling, product showcase, community engagement, and behind-the-scenes content. A full content calendar, posting cadence, hook framework, and analytics review process were established to drive consistent growth leading into and following the first drop.
- 04
Shopify website setup and first drop launch. We supported the Shopify e-commerce website build, aligning the site design and UX with the brand aesthetic and optimising it for the launch moment. The first drop was executed as a coordinated event across social media, email, and the website, designed to generate hype, drive traffic, and establish KotoKuru as a real brand in the market from day one.
