ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
The mission
The Finance Intern at SA Media works directly with the operations and leadership team to support the financial management of a growing global media firm. You will be working with real financial data, real client invoices, and real budgets from your first week in the role.
Your success will be measured by the accuracy and reliability of the work you produce and your ability to keep financial records clean and current without requiring constant oversight. This is a role for a student who is highly precise, naturally organised, and serious about building a foundation for a career in finance, accounting, or business operations.

THE ROLE
What you will do
Support the finance and operations team with day-to-day financial tasks including invoice preparation, payment tracking, and expense reconciliation.
Assist in maintaining accurate financial records across client accounts, vendor relationships, and internal cost centres.
Contribute to monthly and quarterly financial reporting by compiling data, organising spreadsheets, and preparing summary documents for leadership review.
Help build and maintain budget tracking sheets that give the team real-time visibility into projected versus actual spend across projects and departments.
Support the accounts receivable process by monitoring outstanding invoices, sending reminders, and escalating overdue accounts to the appropriate team member.
Assist in preparing financial models, cost analyses, and projections to support decision-making on new client engagements and internal investments.
Research financial tools, software platforms, and reporting frameworks that could improve SA Media financial operations and present findings to the team.
Contribute to payroll coordination support tasks including tracking hours, flagging discrepancies, and ensuring records are accurate ahead of each pay cycle.
Support the preparation of client-facing financial documents including proposals, retainer agreements, and project budget summaries.
Assist in any additional finance and operations tasks as needed, including audit preparation, tax document organisation, and contractor payment administration.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate
A university student with a strong foundation in finance or accounting principles and the precision required to work with real financial data in a live business environment.
Currently enrolled in an accredited university or college program in finance, accounting, economics, commerce, or a related field
Strong numerical literacy and comfort working with financial data, spreadsheets, and basic financial models
Proficient in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for financial tracking, formulas, and reporting
Detail-oriented and precise with a very low tolerance for errors in financial records and reporting
Organised and reliable with the ability to manage multiple financial tasks and meet regular reporting deadlines
Maintains a high standard of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
Clear written and verbal communication skills for presenting financial findings to non-finance stakeholders
Available for a minimum of 16 hours per week during the internship period
NICE TO HAVE
Bonus experience
Familiarity with accounting or bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or FreshBooks.
Exposure to financial modelling, discounted cash flow analysis, or valuation techniques from coursework or self-study.
Understanding of invoicing processes, accounts payable and receivable workflows, and basic business accounting principles.
Prior experience in a finance, accounting, or operations support role in any industry or context.
Knowledge of Canadian, UAE, or US tax frameworks at a conceptual level relevant to business operations.

Is this internship fully remote?
Yes. This is a fully remote internship open to students globally. You will need consistent access to the internet, a secure work environment given the confidential nature of financial data, and availability for regular check-ins.
Is this internship paid?
Compensation is discussed during the interview process and depends on your availability, the scope of your contributions, and where you are in your program.
Do I need prior finance or accounting experience?
Relevant coursework in accounting, finance, or economics is sufficient. You do not need prior professional experience, but you must demonstrate a solid grasp of basic financial principles and a high level of precision in your work.
Will I handle sensitive financial information?
Yes. You will work with real financial data and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. This is a non-negotiable condition of the internship.
How many hours per week is expected?
A minimum of 16 hours per week. We work to structure this flexibly around your class schedule and exam periods.
Will I receive mentorship and guidance?
Yes. You will work closely with the SA Media leadership and operations team and receive regular feedback on the quality and accuracy of your financial work.
Can this lead to a full-time role?
Yes. Strong performers are considered for full-time operations or finance roles and extended contract positions as they become available within SA Media.
